How to Calibrate the 1Zpresso Grinders?

Calibration of 1Zpresso (Easy-presso) コーヒーミル

Greetings, Fellow Coffee Lover,

This tutorial will guide you through the calibration process for the 1Zpresso grinder.

Many people are curious about how to calibrate their 1Zpresso grinder. There are three types of adjustment designs for 1Zpresso grinders: internal adjustment, top adjustment, and external adjustment. Today, we will explain how to calibrate each of these designs.

目次

How to Find the Zero Point / Starting Point?

First, let’s define the zero point or starting point of the grinder. Turn the adjustment dial counterclockwise all the way until you feel resistance while turning the crank handle. This is the zero point, not the tightest point on the dial. Avoid overtightening the dial to prevent the grinder from getting stuck.

Calibration of the 内部調整設計

Q / Q2 / Q Air / J / JX / JE

For those with a Q Series, J, JX, or JE grinder (equipped with an internal adjustment), the starting point is found when you turn the adjustment dial clockwise until the crank handle stops spinning freely, without any resistance. The numbers on the dial are used to count how many steps you’ve turned, so the starting point doesn’t have to be at #0.

The top adjustment works similarly to the internal adjustment, where the numbers on the dial represent how many steps you’ve turned. However, if you want to set the starting point to #0, follow these steps:

  1. If the dot is pointing to #1, #2, or #3 instead of #0 at the tightest setting, remove the adjustment dial by twisting it counterclockwise.
  2. Adjust the knurled thumb nut counterclockwise by 1–3 clicks.
  3. Reattach the adjustment dial, and the starting point should be at #0 (±2 clicks).

Calibration of the 外部調整設計

K-Pro / K-Plus / K-Max / ZP6 Special / K-Ultra

For grinders like the K-Pro, K-Plus, K-Max, ZP6 Special, and K-Ultra, follow these steps to set your grinder to zero:

K-series manual coffee grinder
  1. Before placing the inner burr in the grinder, tighten the adjustment dial counterclockwise all the way to #0. Ensure the gap is fully closed.

2. Place the burr and other parts into the grinder.

3. Push the burr all the way from the bottom and tighten the knurled thumb nut.

4. Your grinder should now be calibrated. If the red dot still passes #0, loosen the adjustment dial clockwise slightly and repeat Step 3 until the red dot aligns with #0.

For the J-Max and J-Ultra grinder, to set the starting point to zero:

J-Max grinder
  1. The starting point should align with #0 on the scale mark, with the bottom edge of the adjustment dial ring touching the first tier of the scale.
  2. Tighten or loosen the knurled thumb nut while pressing the burr from the bottom to set the starting point to #0.

Notes

  • There are four and a half rotations in total from the starting point.
  • The starting point may vary within ±10 clicks depending on the strength with which you tighten the nut and dial.
