Best tasting pour over coffee I’ve had from any grinder. Period.
Best pour-over grinder ever made.
The build quality of the ZP6 feels like it will last a lifetime
Great experience with the grinder so far! But the customer service really stood out. I misspelled my email in my order and they quickly corrected it. The grinder arrived earlier than I expected without any customs delays.
I like it a lot. I like darker roasts, full city being as light as I usually go, and usually do French roast. I like a nice dark cup of coffee, V60, with whole milk and as long as it is not acidic I am good. I don’t really go looking for the different flavor notes in my cup but this grinder makes them pop even with the milk added. I was looking for a good hand grinder that was not too expensive and being a little bit more than my current Baratza Encore and getting good press I decided that I would get one when they were available. I only do pour over at home and I don’t make coffee for large groups so this is perfect for me. It grinds smoothly and the time it takes to grind what I need for my cup is fine, it is a good hand grinder so it is not a pain to grind nor does it take forever. I am surprised how much I enjoy how the flavors stand out more in my coffee. I am not trying to train my palate to enjoy the subtle nuances of coffee because that is not what I am looking for in my coffee at the time but I do enjoy drinking something that makes my coffee taste good where I say “Wow, that’s good.” For my V60 the middle numbers that are in the 4 range are all that I have used and going up or down a click does make a noticeable change in the brewing; I have not had anything horrible but I have found grind settings that I like more than others and it is easy to find those spots for the different coffees. They have grind setting recommendations for French press and siphon and pour over, not sure if it would be okay for a moka pot or a drip but that would be good to know. The ZP6 Special does make a really good cup of coffee and I am really glad that I got one. It is not a replacement for my Baratza Encore because it also makes good coffee and for those occasions where I am going to make a full pot of drip coffee or a large amount of cold brewed coffee it will do a good job at that and hand grinding won’t won’t be practical but for my daily coffee and for making coffee for like 4 or 6 people I will exclusively use the ZP6 Special.
Being a roaster and owner of a specialty coffee company, we only roast elusive high end green coffee. Most of our roast profiles are light roasted. This is where this grinder shines. With a much more narrow particle distribution away from smaller particles, many of the fines are eliminated. It sacrifices a bit of body however opens up a new world of nuances normally masked by the heaviness of the body. Your neural receptors are much more sensitive in your tongue and palate opening new worlds of favor profiles. In addition, you can really push the grind finer to increase extraction yield. This grinder is really made for pourover or drip coffee brewing. I suggest using a flat bottom brewer. I have been changing my roasting profiles to a more Nordic approach. Without a doubt it is my favorite grinder at the moment. And I am fortunate to own many expensive flat burr grinders. Not sure why this is a quick run grinder. I would highlight it in your excellent lineups of hand grinders. Well done.

A beatifful piece of machine. Coming from Normcore Grinder and Wilfa Svart to up my filter game, thing just kills it. It definitely lets you taste much more in the cofee as lower-grade handgrinders. When tested againt friends Comandante, this thing is more consistent and the workflow is just much more pleasant. This thing is much faster than Comandante and the oustide grind setting with red dot is great.
However, nothing is perfect a this ZP6 Special has its downs as well. The cylindrical case is complete nonsense. It does not lay flat, putting the grinder in its compartment and handle to the other is pain. On the other hand, it has travel case. Also, do not try to go to zero point too much. I’ve had this grinder for two weks an burrs locked when I went to tightest setting, si I had to recalibrate the grinder. I heard some people calibrate J-MAX almost once a week, so we will see. Also, the speed is good compared to Comandante but not compared to even Timemore C2. It is beareble when you take the quality for an account. Lastly, there’s the stability. As the bottom part is narrow, it is easy to tip over even with the rubber on the bottom.
Overall, I would say I never had a better and more pleasant grinder in my hand and even though there are some drawbacks, this is definitely a 5-star piece of machinery and I would happily recommend it to my close friends.
Excellent, well enginereed and built and does exactly what it says it does. No hesitation in recommending it for anoyone looking to grind their own beans.
